Community orchestra for Mablethorpe & Sutton on Sea
Our group began in 2016 as part of the Soundlincs New Tricks project whose aim was to introduce music to the over 50’s or to encourage them to dust off an instrument they used to play. Experience wasn’t important, enjoyment was.
In 2018 Mablethorpe New Tricks became independent of Soundlincs and reformed as Mablethorpe Musicians. We are now run by a voluntary committee comprising Mary (Chairperson), Paule (Secretary), Anne (Treasurer) and Kay (Publicity Officer & Musical Director). The committee play a variety of instruments piano, clarinet, flute, soprano & alto recorders; other members of our group play guitar - acoustic & electric, mandolin, ukulele and various percussion instruments.
Our aim is to encourage the people of Mablethorpe and the surrounding area to get involved in making music. We don’t mind how old (or young) you are; we also don’t mind what level you’re at - complete beginners to established players welcome. Most of us read music but don’t worry if you can’t, we’ll help you.
Worried about playing with us? Well don’t be, we’re all friendly and it’s not long ago that we were all new to playing as a group. All we ask of you is that you’re willing to learn (and practice!) and willing to have a go at playing in front of a live audience.
What type of music do we play? Anything really, from early music, 60s and 70s classics to present day.
To cover our costs we charge £5 per session or £2 for those on means-tested benefits: the first session is free.
